Involving athletes with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities, amputating blindness and cerebral.

2.  What challenges do they face? Personal / social?

Disability activists have long argued that individuals are disabled not by physical or intellectual impairment, but by a society that does not accommodate difference.  

3.  What have they achieved so far?

359 medals (2006).

 

4.  When did the Paralympics start?

In 1948.

Vocabulary:

Amputee ----> without hand

Cerebral palsy ----> Brain defect

Intellectual disability ----> mental disability

Dwarfism ----> Short stature

Multiple sclerosis ----> differences

Congenital disorder ----> Mental disorder
